Poem Up at Juked–“Desert Circus in Three Rings (Dream Poem #2)”
by holdingbreathmemoir
Last summer I was thinking and dreaming a lot about what had happened in Ferguson, and about similar events around the county. I was also thinking about the destruction and death in Gaza under Operation “Protective Edge”, and about finishing the poems for my book about Jesus and Mary Magdalene, Gospel of the Throwaway Daughter. This poem was one of the results, and I’m really happy that the literary journal Juked chose to publish it!

Nancy, powerful words, and such music to it when read aloud…glad you found a good home for this poem.
Thank you so much, Laura! I especially appreciate that you read it out loud, and your comment about its “music”–that’s something I really strive for when I write (and, as I’m sure you’ve heard me say before, I read my stuff out loud to myself over and over as I’m writing). (And I find that the same is true in your work! 🙂 )
That’s why I read others’ poems that I like aloud…hidden gems!
Your words feel good in the mouth, Nancy. Their shapes, sounds. I don’t know how better to explain it. And when read aloud, they sound the way they feel – exactly as they should, just right.
Thanks, Robert! You and Laura have made me seriously happy with your comments!
Just the truth!
